Hey Everyone! ) I’m Anna and welcome to my channel. Here, I post some useful information for English learners. I’m from Ukraine and I’ve worked on my English and accent, for the most part, on my own, but you can find out and trace my story by watching my videos. I’ve been studying American pronunciation for a long time, and I still do, and I guess I always will – because it’s not math. Learning a language, it’s a lifetime journey. I know exactly what it takes to become fluent and acquire an accent in a non-English speaking country, and I’ve never even been to one. And I’m sharing this information here – on my channel.

So first off you have to book a flight or to book a ticket, a flight ticket.
To book in this case it’s not a book that we read, not a noun, this a verb which means to arrange a reservation for a further purchase. We also book a hotel room or a trip.

Then when you make a confirmation and pay money - you buy your flight ticket. You get an itinerary receipt with the e-ticket number.

When you’re making your booking you get to choose either you want to buy a one way ticket which means only to a one certain destination or a round trip – to the place where you want go and back.

And also there is a multi-city trip or multi-stop flight - is an advanced airline ticket which allows you to travel across the world using multiple stops.

A flight can be domestic flight (within the same country) or international flight (worldwide).

In your itinerary receipt you’ll find your departure date and time it’s when you leave one place to go to, to fly to another.

Arrival – it’s the time and date of your coming to a place.

Then you’ll see the name of your Airline – it’s a company that own aircrafts and provides regular transportation of people or goods by plane.

Aircraft -it’s any vehicle that can fly, a plane for example.

Also you have to choose the Class - usually airlines have three classes – Economy, Business and First class, where the first class is the most expensive and the most comfortable and economy is the cheapest and the least comfortable.

Then you have to check-in for your flight. Meaning that you have to confirm your presence on a flight by showing your ticket at the airport at the check-in desk and to get your boarding pass or you can do it online (and this is what a lot of airlines require you to do).

A boarding pass – is a document that allows you to board a plane . It identifies you as a passenger, your seat, a flight number and the boarding time and the time of departure.

Boarding time - it’s the time at which passengers are invited to enter the plane. It’s also displayed on continually updated departure screens at the airport. So pay attention to those, because it can change due to a delay or it can even be canceled or your gate can change.

Gate – it’s a doorway that opens to a jet bridge which leads to a plane.

Baggage, luggage – it’s your personal stuff that you take with you on a trip.

Carry-on baggage it’s baggage that you can take with you on a plane and place it either under the seat in front of you or in the overhead compartment. It has to be small enough so that you can take it with you on a plane. And, the criteria vary from airline to airline. So gotta pay attention.

A baggage claim it’s an area at the airport where you can pick up your baggage after a flight, when you arrive.

Customs – it’s an official department where custom’s officers check travelers and their baggage.

Airport lounge – so this is a place with different amenities where you can relax, eat, drink, have free Wi-Fi and where it is super comfortable. And sometimes you can also buy your entrance to the lounge.

When a plane take off it leaves the ground and begins to fly. And then it land when it touches the ground after a flight. Also a landing is called Touchdown

Layover Stopover. Layover is probably more commonly used in the US. It’s a stop a short stay that you make when you have a long flight.

And a long flight is called a Long-haul flight.

Flight attendants or cabin crew those are stewards and stewardesses. Their job is to keep you safe and help you during a flight.

There’s also such a thing as an Overbooked flight – it’s when an airline sells more tickets than there are seats on a flight and you can get bumped from a flight, as a result of overbooking, it’s also called denied boarding.

TSA and it’s almost always used as this abbreviation – it’s a Transportation Security Administration of the US. It’s a department of homeland security.

If you’re carrying something that can break you can ask to mark it as fragile.
