Inspecting Beehives for Varroa Mites

Varroa Mite inspections are key to keeping beehives healthy enough to survive winter. Here, we take a sample of bees from each give, dust them with powdered sugar which dislodges the mites, then count the fallen mites. If counts are high, organic treatments are warranted, beginning with a full give dusting of powdered sugar.
