Evan Peters talks about being part of Ryan Murphy's unofficial acting troupe

Actor Evan Peters has appeared in all seven seasons of Ryan Murphy's anthology series "American Horror Story" and is now filming the showrunner's new dance musical series set in 1980s New York.
Peters and Sarah Paulson are the only two actors to appear in each iteration of "American Horror Story," but it's not unusual for Murphy to tap actors he's worked with before for his other projects.
Lea Michele and Darren Criss from "Glee," Lily Rabe and Emma Roberts have also worked on more than one Ryan Murphy production.
"I don't know what it is," said Peters of his regular working relationship with Murphy. "I don't know what keeps people in the troupe and what gets them kicked out but (laughs) luckily and knock on wood, I'm in it right now and hopefully I can stay in it because it's a great world to be a part of."
Peters describes working with Murphy as "very collaborative."
"It's very open but also Ryan and Brad (Falchuk - "Glee" and "American Horror Story" co-creator) are visionaries. They have a great vision and they also have their finger on the pulse, I always say that but it's true. He has such great taste mixed with what's going on in the world and his shows are relevant and they try to bring a mirror up on society."
Murphy is directing two episodes of "Pose" and Peters says he's been watching him to soak up knowledge.
"It's been a great opportunity for me to sort of dissect that and try to figure out what it is that he has that makes it, that makes him Ryan Murphy and makes everything you want to watch and want to be a part of it. I don't know. There's such a sparkle to it all."
He says his favorite work thus far has been on "American Horror Story: Cult," where he played cult leader Kai Anderson, as well as Charles Manson, David Koresh, Marshall Applewhite, Andy Warhol and Jim Jones.
"It was incredibly challenging and daunting but it was really fun and I sort of, I was sort of shocked that I walked away alive doing it," said Peters. "It was definitely a life-changing experience for me."
Peters says Murphy has the power to show people what they're capable of.
"It's one of those things where you're kind of flying by the seat of your pants and you're just going with your gut and you're not over-thinking everything and that's something I have a tendency to do. So it's kind of great to just sort of get a Ryan Murphy kick in the ass to get out there and do it and believe in yourself and have confidence and he's been great at instilling that."
