Adding stair lights is an inexpensive way to upgrade your home. In this video I walk through how I planned and installed these lights I bought on Amazon.
This is a cool DIY project to give your home a touch of luxury! I added smart switches so I can automate turning these on remotely.
I love smart home tech and do it yourself, and I'm a huge fan of This Old House. I also like problem solving and a project like this is about planning, but also reacting when something unexpected pops up.
One interesting challenge was how to add control the lights from both the top and bottom of the stairs, without running wiring for a typical two way switch scenario. I solved that by using a TP link smart light switch at the bottom, which the lights are connected to, and then using another TP Link switch at the top of the stairs. But on that switch all it does is control the other switch, using "Smart Actions" defined in the app. Check out another video (coming soon) where I'll show you exactly how to set that up.
