K-9s to Furkids, Ltd Training Center

Proud to say, I grew up in a family full of German Shepherds & two Sealyham Terriers. Behaviorism comes naturally. I learned my place by having bottles knocked to the floor by the “tail whip zone” as a toddler. I know the intelligence of GSDs, they helped to raise me! They were just as much family as blood relatives.

I've been taking in “strays” for as long as I can remember. #Blessed

When I moved back home to HarCo in 2010, I had no idea things would twist & turn to here. Once again, I'm thankful. Due to Drachon's untimely passing, I met Lori Dendi - meeting & became mother to Segen. I have since been blessed to rescue, rehab & rehome a great many dogs through our shared network & hard work.

Asked by the director of Animal Control to foster two GSDs. Recognizing my ability with dogs, asked to adopt them. They were certain those two high-drive pups couldn't be separated while having them to flourish independently. Thankfully, I proved those preconceived notions wrong.

Both Buttercup & Tyler are in amazing homes, working daily as seizure alert & assist service dogs. I have a standing agreement with the AC Director to rescue, rehab, & home those misunderstood “high-drive” GSDs in the hopes of training those which can be into Service Dogs for those truly in need. What dogs I have been working with have been not only a success but a profound achievement in their placements.

Knowing health insurance will not pay for Service Dogs will ensure K-9s to Furkids, Ltd is not only a viable program but an absolute Godsend to those in need of a service dog. As well as the dogs being rescued from certain euthanasia—to find a perfect place for their work drive, a job to facilitate their energy is spent helping a family in need. Due to the length & intensity of this training, purchasing a service dog can be exceptionally pricey – anywhere from $15,000 to $50,000 – and they are not covered by any health insurance. Service dogs’ expenses, however, can be deducted from your taxes and there are many other ways to defray the cost.

Most training organizations/centers turn down anyone who needs a dog which is under the age of 14, lacks age-appropriate cognitive ability, as well as being able to independently command or handle a Service Dog for themselves are instantly out of the running for one of their dogs. Talk about a slap in the face for those who need SDs most. Any applicant must not have any other pets in the home. Then the average wait time on a variety of waiting lists across the net can range from one to fifteen long years. These demands leave out a great number of families who could & would benefit the most from an Assistance Dog, let alone the emotional benefits of the companionship of a Furkid for a family.

Where we get our soon-to-be Handlers involved in the training process. It not only helps to build trust & bond between the dog and handler, it also builds confidence & a skill set while helping them to become a better dog owner! Not dropping a dog into a house that knows nothing about a new furkid! Our way, it's a win-win for all involved!

We sincerely hope in the future that we will be supported in our endeavor with building an interdependence between Handlers & Service Dogs, building true teams of Interdependence by rescuing K9s all while helping these lost souls to become Furkids with bits of love, patience, consistency, and backup from the public.
