Et Sha'are Ratson (Spanish & Portuguese Choir, London)

The choir of the Spanish & Portuguese Jews' Congregation of London performing on 24 October 2010 at a concert to honour Maurice Martin on his retirement after over 50 years as choirmaster.

This beautiful poetic retelling of the 'Akedah -- the binding of Isaac -- is sung on Rosh Hashanah as a prelude to the blowing of the shofar. The final stanza is repeated by the Hazan in a highly ornamented form of the basic melody. The soloist is Adam Musikant and the conductor is Eliot Alderman (Maurice Martin during the solo).
