How Do Kids Deal with Reality? | 360 video: Girl

Written by Lindsay Kerns and Megan Kelly
Directed by Lauren Ludwig

Six-year old Janie is disappearing inside herself, not speaking and unwilling or unable to interact with the increasingly chaotic world around her. Amid family turmoil, she and her mother have come to the outskirts of the California desert to stay with Janie’s grandma. With her mother and grandmother struggling for stability and unable to help her, Janie's fear and confusion find fantastical expression in her mind. Joshua trees sprout up among the desert art and dusty knick-knacks of Grandma's home, lightning strikes have garish colors and thunder sends doors slamming shut. Outer and inner realities blend as we explore what it's like to be a child making sense of the adult world.
