VAN LIFE BUILD: Installing Windows in Our Tiny House | Uhaul Box Truck Conversion

Installing windows in our box truck was a key project because it didn’t have any windows pre installed in the back of the truck. Since we will be living full time out of the van, we really value having natural light come in from windows in the back of the truck and airflow coming in from the windows. Both of those aspects are key parts of van life. We chose to install three windows total in our box truck conversion. One window on each side wall of the van and a third wall in the mom’s attic on the front side of the van. These windows add a lot to the space and allow us to have plenty of natural light to be able to live and work in.

Although having windows hurts a van’s stealth ability, they are still a key part of #vanlife for most people. It makes it much more obvious that someone might be living out of the vehicle, especially with a retired uhaul truck as we have which isn’t meant to have any windows, but we think that losing out on that stealth is worth it to add in windows. We’re so happy with how they look and all the light and air they add to the inside of the van!

We ordered our windows from an RV parts store on Ebay but they gave us a lot of trouble while installing. We made many mistakes and they required a lot of problem solving. Our Project Today box truck conversion is looking better and better each episode. We are really excited to live out of it full time and try Vanlife out. Having the windows makes the dream feel that much more real!
