PPAM Aid Fitting Tutorial | Ortho Europe

This video demonstrates the step-by-step process of fitting the Pneumatic Post-Amputation Mobility Aid (PPAM Aid) for patients with below and above knee amputations.

What is that PPAM Aid used for?
The PPAM Aid is designed for partial weight bearing rehabilitation in primary amputes, helping to prepare their residual limb for wearing a definitive prosthesis.

Who can use a PPAM Aid, and when?
If they are physically fit enough to do so, primary below knee, knee disarticulation, and long above-knee patients can use the PPAM Aid around 7-10 days after their surgery. The wound must first be assessed, and a physiotherapist should fit the PPAM Aid before helping the patient to walk.

What are the benefits?
Early use of the PPAM Aid assists in the reduction of residual limb oedema and promotes mobility, offering clear psychological benefits for the patient whilst preparing them to walk with a prosthetic limb. Pain and phantom sensations may also be reduced, whilst balance, gait and postural reactions can all be improved through repeated PPAM Aid use.
