The Canon 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM is a very sharp, high-value, fast, well built, and extremely capable lens for canon full frame cameras and canon crop sensor cameras. The auto-focus is fast and accurate, the lens is plenty sharp wide open and just gets better when stopped down to f/4 where it's about perfect. The 100mm macro is free of almost all lens aberrations that sometimes plague primes, with almost no CA (chromatic aberration), distortion, or softness, it's just a pleasure to use.

On top of being able to produce 1:1 macro on the image sensor, the 100 is a great portrait lens and a perfect complement to any of Canon's 50mm lenses.
