Pond, Plants, & Drainage - Planting a Vivarium & Vivarium Drainage | Big Bioactive Vivarium Build #2
In this, the second part of the big bioactive vivarium build (technically paludarium build with the pond installed), we establish the ground work of this to-be day gecko setup.
Today, I show you how to build a false bottom for a vivarium (or paludarium, or terrarium, or whatever it is you're working with) out of relatively cheap materials. I discuss how the drainage layer will be continuous with a water section, then add substrate to the enclosure and go on a discourse about vivarium plant care. With all of this out of the way, we are squared up for what is potentially the most important part of the vivarium build, the stage which will transform the enclosure from uninhabitable to hospitable for both plants and animals: the addition of lighting.
The vivarium being developed in this video series was purchased from Custom Aquaria. If you would like to buy a similar vivarium from them, you can message Matthew and Lisa - the business owners - on their Facebook page here: https://www.facebook.com/CustomAquaria.Rushden/
You can find all of the rest of the products shown in this video on Amazon via the links compiled in the following kits. I have included most of the plants which I used in the video (or ones very similar where I coudn't find the specific types on Amazon). However, I would recommend using plants suited to the animals you will be keeping rather than just copying what I'm doing, and of course your personal taste in plants will likely be different to mine, anyway, so maybe just head to the garden centre when it comes to plant shopping :)
