Why the Egg in San Antonio & meeting Space Ibiza Pepe Rosello

In this Ibiza video, I explain why there's an egg in San Antonio Ibiza, and I meet Ibiza legend Pepe Rosello from Space Ibiza, I often used the Ibiza egg as a meeting point, I'd always just say to my friends meet me by the egg, points such as the Ibiza slingshot, Cafe Mambo, bottom of the west end or outside Es Paradis, Bora Bora, Murphys Irish Bar and at no point did I ever wonder why there was an egg in Ibiza but after many years of living in Ibiza people would often ask me, why, why is there an egg in San Antonio Ibiza?

The egg in San Antonio was erected in 1992 to celebrate the 500th anniversary of the discovery of America. It was crafted by the artists Antoni Hormigo, Julio Bauzá and Luis Ojeda, Inside the egg there is a metal sculpture of the Santa Maria, the ship that Columbus used to sail to the Americas, so Christopher Columbus was seeking funding for his expeditions and as he had difficulty to get it because of everyone’s didn't believe him, he challenged those present in a Spanish court to keep the egg completely straight without supporting it anywhere else. No one could take such action, so he crushed the tip of the egg to the ground, breaking its bottom and keeping it straight, making them understand what he wanted. "If I show you how to you stand this egg up alone you'll all know how to do it after me" That's a pretty smart outlook on life if you ask me one final thing I learned apparently the ship inside the egg is facing towards the Americas. I find this more interesting as my middle name is Christopher, a great Ibiza story I think.

Space in its current began in 1989 when Pepe Rosello, Ibiza nightclub owner since 1963, took over the establishment, which in the four years since it was built had housed a conference hall with a discothèque. Space was a superclub on the island of Ibiza, Spain from 1986 to 2016, It was awarded "Best Global Club" at the International Dance Music Awards in 2005, 2006, 2012, 2013, and 2014. Space was located in Platja d'en Bossa on the outskirts of Ibiza Town, close to the airport.
