Prevent Swarming Fast (And the Mistake I Didn’t Catch)

#joneyjefe #beekeeperapproved #honeyboss

Savanna Apiary POV – working bees in cold, windy conditions.

Today I’m adding queen excluders and honey supers to help delay swarming until I can make my splits.

I don’t normally use queen excluders, but in this case:
• The queen is likely in the top brood box
• Without an excluder, she’ll move into the honey supers
• That creates complications when making splits

So this is a temporary strategy to control brood placement.

⚠️ I also made a mistake in this video:
I accidentally placed the inner cover under the honey super, which blocks bee access completely. Easy to do when you're cold and moving fast.

Key takeaways:
• Using queen excluders strategically (not permanently)
• How to delay swarming
• Common setup mistakes to avoid
• Working bees in cold, windy conditions

Beekeeper approved.

Honey with a “J” and Jeff with one “F” between two “E”s… and this is my office.
