Abstract: The age-old question of the existence of the underworld mentioned in the Ramayana has been troubling scholars and researchers like an inexplicable puzzle. This paper explores the possibility of existence beneath the Earth, drawing particular attention to the recent discovery of Ciudad Blanca, an ancient city in Honduras. The story of Ramayana narrates the journey of Hanuman, son of Pawan, a devotee of Lord Rama, who reached the underworld in search of the underworld to save his beloved deity from the clutches of Ahiravana. According to this saga of Ramayana, Hanuman had covered a distance of 70 thousand yojana to reach the said underground area through seven floors, for example, as mentioned in the Purana: Atal, Vittal, Sutal, Talatal, Mahatal, Rasatal and Patal. It is also noteworthy that, if a tunnel is dug in India today, it can reach countries like Mexico, Brazil and Honduras across the continents and if it is dug through the forest of Madhya Pradesh, it can reach Honduras in Central America. Can. However, the concept of Hades, the world below ground beyond human reach, recurs in mythology, raising questions about its existence.
In 2015, using modern LiDAR technology, scientists from the University of Houston discovered a lost ancient city called Ciudad Blanca in Honduras, Central America. Today many researchers like us speculate that this city is the Patala Loka described in the Ramayana, especially given the uncanny similarity between the discovered statues of monkey gods and Rama devotee Hanuman.

Director General of School of Management Sciences, Lucknow and Chairman of Vedic Science Centre, Prof. Bharat Raj Singh, according to his interesting calculations, throws light on this. Referring to Bengali Ramayana, he showed that the distance of Patala Loka is 1000 Jojans which is approximately 12,800 kilometers and it matches the diameter of the Earth. Thus, if a tunnel were to be built anywhere from India to Sri Lanka or connect it to the underworld, it would align precisely with ancient measurements. Additionally, legend suggests that after conquering Ahiravana, Lord Rama appointed Makardhwaja as the ruler of Patalpuri, which also seems to be linked to the statue of Makardhwaja discovered in this underground city.

This exploration not only reveals possible connections between mythological narratives and archaeological discoveries but also underlines India's rich cultural heritage and contribution to ancient civilization and scientific advancement. It demonstrates deep potential for the fusion of myth and reality, encouraging the spread of ancient knowledge on a global scale.
