Penang is world-famous for its hawker street food ,but few know the personal side to the street chefs behind the mouth-watering creations.
For the first time ever we uncover their stories through the lens of street-chefs themselves. While showcasing their mastery of preparing Malaysian hawker food.

Celebrating 64th Merdeka and our multicultural roots, we present a visual culinary snapshot of, “The Melting Pot: Penang.” Our first ever food-stories documentary series. By Robert Chua Sufjian Soo Ghee and Andrew Gooi

Directors Statement:

Being a born and bred Penangite, I wanted to preserve my Malaysian food culture through a series of films.

Capturing food stories and recipes perfected over several generations, it would be disastrous if the ongoing pandemic wiped this out.

Thus my team and I have spent the better part of a year documenting these stories, in a format fit for the world stage.

My hope is that through these films, more people all over the world can appreciate the love, dedication and craft put into each of these hawker dishes. Prepared by master street-chefs in my hometown.
