Watch live: MPs are holding an emergency debate on the crisis in Afghanistan

Parliamentarians have been recalled from their summer holidays to take part in a five hour debate on the situation in Afghanistan which will begin shortly.

MPs had not been due to return to Parliament until 6 September, but following pressure from the opposition parties, Commons Speaker Sir Lindsay Hoyle granted a request from the government for the Commons to reconvene.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson will open the debate and it looks unlikely that there will be a vote at the end.
