Design and Modelling of Ground Source Heat Pump Systems

In this webinar, Brendan Hall of CHA Consulting and Mattie DeDoes of Karpinski Engineering share their experience of designing and modelling ground source heat pumps (GSHP) for optimal performance through two case studies. The webinar explains ground heat exchanger fundamentals in DesignBuilder and how ground heat exchanger design software was used in these projects to carry out a detailed sizing calculation to account for specific borehole layouts and ground properties. It also shows how the calculated G-function data was imported into the DesignBuilder Ground Heat Exchanger to improve model accuracy and how to pair a ground heat exchanger with a water cooled VRF system. Performance of the ground source system is compared with that of an air-cooled VRF system.
