For centuries, audiences have been captivated by the unique tones achieved by individual performers, but with the rise of modern technology, creating a sound that is uniquely yours is easier than ever. Synthesizers, effect pedals, and other devices offer artists previously unimaginable levels of personalized timbre control, allowing them to craft the exact tone color that perfectly fits their artistic vision. But... do they own that tone color? Does it belong to them, and more importantly, should it? This question was raised in the recent trial over Katy Perry's hit Dark Horse, and my friend and fellow YouTuber Adam Neely quickly rejected the idea that you could own your own timbre. As for me, though? Well... I think it's a bit more complicated.
