Unity UI has many performance traps: Raycast Target is one. So where is it really need and when can you turn it off?

Raycast Target designates where clicks can happen. It is iterated every single frame and tested by the Unity UI system. When you fail to optimize this setting, then you'll have hundreds to a thousand useless checks going on, which can pose a significant toll on mobile and lower-end platforms. Higher end platforms should only retain functional Raycast Targets (blocking / intercepting clicks); performance is less of a concern, but every little bit helps, especially if you plan on porting to other platforms later.

You can also control Raycast Target for groups on the Canvas or with a Canvas Group.
