South Africa's new COVID-19 variant and impact: Prof. Bruce Mellado
Speculation is rife that South Africa is looking down the barrel of a stricter lockdown.
Yesterday the country breached the 1 million mark in terms of the total number of COVID-19 cases.
The total number of deaths has risen to close to 27 thousand.
And the second wave has been worse than expected, possibly due to a new variant of a mutation of the COVID-19 virus that has been found in South Africa.
To discuss we're joined now by senior scientist at iThemba labs at Wits University, Professor Bruce Mellado.
He is also a member of the Gauteng Premier COVID 19 advisory committee.
