Scooter Gearbox Explanation

Here's a quick video explaining how the gearbox on a full size scooter works. Very similar between almost every scooter engine on the market (with minor differences in design).

There are many options available to upgrade the gears in your scooter.

To get the ratio, divide the larger gear tooth count by the smaller gear tooth count. Example: 49/17 gears give us a 2.88 gear ratio - the closer to "1", the taller the gear. Stock scooters are normally around 3.2. Keep that in mind when upgrading; you can go too tall.
