What is data altruism? Data scientist and academic Sylvia Ilieva gives us three scenarios where invisible data has the power to improve our quality of life. Data helps the 10-minute city to plan the right number and allocation of kindergartens, to shield us from harmful noise and to monitor consistently the quality of air we breathe. Sylvia Ilieva believes that big data can be a unifying force for science, business and government. She is a professor at the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics at Sofia University, a long-time head of the Dept of Software Technology, founder of the programs in Software Engineering. Since 2019, she has been managing the GATE Institute - the first center of excellence in Bulgaria and Eastern Europe for innovation in big data and Ai with applications in cities of the future, digital healthcare, smart government and smart industry.
