CAST For Kids And The Pickwick Challenge

This week on Americana Outdoors, we’re bringing you coverage of the third annual Haley’s Heroes Cast for Kids Celebrity Pro-am Bass Fishing Tournament and Banquet at Lake Waco, presented by Texas Farm Bureau Insurance. Cast For Kids events have enriched the lives of special needs kids and their families for the last twenty nine years by bringing them outdoors and sharing positive messages that all kids are capable of overcoming challenges, despite their disabilities.  In twenty nineteen alone, Cast For Kids hosted seventy five local events in thirty five states across the country, with nineteen of those located in Texas.   These events are made possible through fundraising initiatives like the celebrity pro-am bass fishing tournament. At this gala, people have the opportunity to participate in silent and live auctions, which include the chance to bid on the opportunity to spend the day fishing with one of our fifteen celebrity guests in attendance, many of whom are professional anglers themselves.

The Cast For Kids celebrity pro-am tournament is a three tier event. First, we kick things off with a night of fellowship and a fundraising banquet for all of the guests. The following day, our fifteen celebrity guests head out on the water with our auction winners for the pro-am tournament, which boasts a five thousand dollar grand prize. But, the main attraction happens back on the banks. This is where the families and children with special needs get the opportunity to fish all day, enjoy being out in the sun, and for many, have a chance to catch the very first fish of their life!

Up next, we head over to Pickwick Lake in Alabama with Wade Middleton, Jeff Reynolds, Clark Wendlandt, and Michael Wersig, who have staged a little tailrace fishing competition between themselves. In this competition, it’s a no-holds-barred, anything goes, race to the finish line. All fish count in this tournament, and the scoring system is as follows: 1 point for any fish, 2 points for a largemouth bass, 20 points for the largest fish caught, and 10 points for the biggest large mouth bass. Tune in and witness what length these guys are willing to go to in order to claim that sweet sweet victory.
