INCREDIBLE FLASH FLOOD IN HAWAII - DECEMBER 2022

A powerful Kona Storm brought powerful winds and torrential rain to Hawaii on December 19, 2022. The normally driest coast in the state, the South Kohala coast, was inundated with flash floods that overwhelmed normally dry gulches and roads.

Waikoloa, Kawaihae and Puako are the driest towns in Hawaii by average precipitation (10 inches or less), yet they bore the brunt of the powerful storm, with four to eight inches of rain falling in less than 24-hours.
