How to get your toddler to stop kicking the seat in front of them on planes:

This won’t work for every child and what we have found is that the older they get, the more creative you have to get, BUT, up until 18 months or so, taking her shoes off was it 👏

Now, obviously this isn’t a substitution for teaching your toddler that kicking the seat is just not nice, but sometimes you need a solution after the 5th explanation 😂

Other things that have worked for us:
- leading with empathy: whenever we tell her what to do, we are often faced with defiance or questioning. We have found that when we explain from a place of empathy “the nice lady in front is tired, she wants to sleep and she can’t if you’re kicking her seat” she is 90% more likely to cooperate.
- having something to ground her feet: as a person whose feet are always dangling (I have short legs in proportion to my body) I can tell you it’s just uncomfortable to have dangling feet. You’re always looking for a place for them. We have found that placing something she can rest her feet on does wonders for her.
