LT. BLUEBERRY was Martin Kove's aborted attempt to make a Spaghetti western. The COBRA KAI star tells why in this extended interview. “It coulda been a classic,” Kove says of his dream western and starring role as “Lt. Blueberry.” What happened?

The source material was the award-winning LT. BLUEBERRY, a series of graphic novels by Jean “Moebius” Giraud with a built-in worldwide audience. Kove’s rugged good looks, chiseled features and strong on-screen presence made him a natural for the part a classic western hero. Kove. With an international crew, footage was shot with Kove as “Lt. Kove has been playing rough and tumble heroes and (mostly) villains for 50 years but would actually rather just play a cowboy. His resume includes a number of TV and movie westerns ranging from a guest spot in the early 1970s on the original GUNSMOKE TV series and a villainous role in WYATT EARP, where he punches Kevin Costner, to appearing in the black and white TV western homage, "Bounty Law," in Quentin Tarantino's ONCE UPON A TIME IN HOLLYWOOD.

Kove created the unforgettable screen character of the psychotic karate sensei, “Kreese,” in the original KARATE KID movie in 1984. That classic spawned a series of sequels and the current Netflix smash half hour series, COBRA KAI. Who knows, with an all-new batch of younger fans, maybe Kove will finally get a chance to star in his own Spaghetti western. Even after 40 years, he still looks like he could handle it!
