For over 20 years, Immigrant Day of Action has honored immigrants as the driving force in California. Today, Immigrant Day of Action has become one of the largest community days of action in Sacramento where over 1,000 participants trained, engaged, and led in critical advocacy work in our state’s capitol.

On May 11, 2020, community members and leaders shared our challenges and joys, our struggles and victories, and our collective vision for a better California for everyone.

This is a time of great uncertainty – communities from every region of California persevere and stand together in solidarity, struggle, and resilience. Despite the remorseless attacks on immigrant and refugee communities, California continues to defy and boldly reiterate that our values of justice and equality will never be shaken. An immigrant day of action allows us to uphold our values and build advocacy networks across the state and country. CIPC and statewide partners also use this day to work towards a thriving California for all individuals and families. Efforts this year are focused on advancing Health4All, a campaign to cover all those eligible under Medi-Cal regardless of status, expanding the California Earned Income Tax Credit that recognizes the work of all families, and a comprehensive defense of the “California Values Act”.

On May 11, 2020 we made the power of immigrant voices heard online during a time elected officials are making decisions that affect the lived realities of individuals and our communities. Grassroots leaders are also introduced to elected representatives in their districts and human rights advocates paving the way to protect, defend, and expand immigrant rights. Starting the day with a morning community rally, legislative meetings in the Capitol, expert panel sessions on pressing issues affecting immigrants in California, and an afternoon of entertainment and celebration provide something for everyone and empowers civic engagement year-round.
Join the California Immigrant Policy Center and partners across the state in making Immigrant Day of Action a larger, more inclusive event by participating as an official sponsor.
