The traditional banking model involving branches, ATMs and application forms is redundant in a digital age, according to Brett King, CEO of "downloadable bank" Moven.

Speaking at WIRED Money, he painted a picture of a digital world where every single industry has been disrupted -- citing digital natives such as YouTuber PewDiePie, who has an audience that is 20 times bigger than CNN's with a fraction of the budget. He also mentioned an avatar popstar called Hatsune Miku who takes to the stage as a 3D "hologram" and opens concerts for Lady Gaga.

"Millennials, Gen Ys will go out and rock out at a concert delivered by an avatar. Do you think that kids who will watch an avatar perform at a concert would prefer to see a human at a bank branch? Those days are over," warned King.

WIRED Money is a one-day summit that explores the future of finance. The event was launched in recognition of the fact that financial services -- from online payments to transferring money -- are broken. And where a problem exists, so entrepreneurs step in to create efficiencies.
