No History, No Self: The Fight for Asian-American Studies at Hunter College

For the past 15 years, students and faculty at CUNY’s Hunter College have protested for an institutionalized Asian-American Studies Program that would allow students of all backgrounds to promote a greater awareness of Asian-American communities and our diverse histories. Following the start of COVID-19 pandemic, the rise of Anti-Asian hate crimes has urged universities across the United States to expand their teaching of Asian-American Studies courses. This documentary serves to remind CUNY of its imperative responsibility to pursue an Asian Studies Program as a means to combat ongoing racialized violence

As of May 2022, Chancellor Felix V. Matos Rodriguez and Hunter College President Jennifer J. Raab has finally announced a new full-time faculty position for the Asian-American Studies Program at Hunter College. Thank you to all students and faculty who have played a part in fighting for Asian Studies and Asian American students at CUNY!
