I pitched my tent against the Land Rover Discovery 4, to see which is best to sleep in
After fitting the roof rack to my Discovery 4, I wanted to take it on a mini-adventure in the Peak District, to give the car a shake out and see how it performs on a short camping trip.
I took my Exped tent with me and I compared camping in the tent vs camping in the back of the Land Rover. I was pleasantly surprised by how comfortable the LR4 was to sleep in, but there are a few other adjustments I need to make the car if I plan to use it as a camper in my future adventures.
During this long weekend in the Peaks, I stayed at Beltonville Farm, which had a great little farm-shop, friendly staff and two large camping fields. The busiest campsite is the one directly opposite the toilet and shower facilities on the lower field. The other campsite was on the upper field and it was empty. It also had the best views by far. So it was worth a 2 minute walk to the toilets.
On Saturday, I went for a walk with my friend in Miller's Dale Monsal Trail (Peak District), and walked along the River Wye.
On Sunday, we went for a bike ride suggested to us by the Bike Garage at Hope Valley Garden Centre. The route was good for beginners as there were no technical bits, but the distance and the climb required an intermediate level of fitness.
On Monday, I did a 7 mile fell run/jog/plod around the hills near the campsite, dropping back on to the Monsal Trail on the way back.
This is the first of many small shake-outs for the Land Rover Discovery, so I can gradually prepare the car for my big adventure in Norway (as soon as Covid allows us to travel relatively freely).
