Cloacina: Goddess of Rome's Oldest Sewer
The Cloaca Maxima, (lit. Greatest Sewer) of ancient Rome, was one of the city’s most impressive and important feets of engineering. But to the Ancient Romans it was more than just that - the sewer was believed to be sacred. Presiding over it was the goddess Cloacina, and here I will share what I could find about this little known aspect of Roman Paganism.
