Shaurya Chakra Awardee's Pakistani Mother Allowed To Stay In India Amid Deportations

The mother of Shaurya Chakra awardee Mudassir Sheikh, Shamima Akhtar, will not be deported to Pakistan. This decision comes as 159 Pakistani nationals are being sent back via the Attari Wagah border. Mudassir Sheikh, who died fighting terror, was posthumously awarded the Shaurya Chakra in 2022. The Government of India's decision to allow Shamima Akhtar to stay is seen as a gesture of magnanimity.
