RC T-28 Trojan motor issues emergency landing! #sounded bad #emergency #lucky #rclanding #onboard
My theory about what happened is that the power supplies DC current from the batteries to the motor. With the motor off, the propellers rotate using the wind from the decending plane. This creates an AC current, resulting in too much electricity inside the power pack. One Ac and One DC. After a quick Google search, it showed me that this is what happens.
High Sparking at Brushes: The AC current will reverse polarity, leading to increased sparking at the brushes as the commutator tries to rectify the AC current.
Poor Power Factor: The AC current will not be in phase with the voltage, resulting in a poor power factor.
Low Speed and Efficiency: The motor will likely run at a reduced speed and with lower overall efficiency due to the issues with the AC current and the motor's design for DC operation.
The reason I think this is the issue is that, on the second flight of this Trojan, the same thing happened after a long, unpowered glide into the runway. When I applied throttle, I heard the same burping motor, and instead of continuing to force the throttle like I did in this flight, I belly-landed.
Watching the footage back, you can clearly see that there was a low power factor, and the sound we are hearing could potentially be electricity sparking from the brushless motor.
