Philosopher Jules Evans explores the opposite of ‘self-help’: self-surrender, and how, throughout history, people have found healing by surrendering their own sense of self to a higher power.

Evans discusses what happens psychologically during these states, and offers different explanations for how we might understand the phenomenon.

Jules Evans is Policy Director at the Centre for the History of Emotions at Queen Mary, University of London and a leading researcher into ecstatic experience.
