You’ve seen the Coinbase IPO and Robinhood IPO and now you want to know how to buy IPO stocks too. Luckily you’ve found the right video! Make sure to be aware that buying IPO stocks comes with a lot of risk. I’m going to do my best to explain how we as individual investors can buy IPO stock on opening day by placing a limit order with our brokerage. Robinhood in particular lets you place a bid the night before the IPO for how much you are willing to pay and how many shares you’d like to buy. Robinhood does it’s best to get your order filled once trading begins, but there are no guarantees. If there is high demand for the IPO shares then the chances are pretty low that your order will be filled. Don’t panic and fall prey to FOMO. So when should you buy an IPO stock if you miss out on the initial run-up? There will likely be multiple buying opportunities throughout the day if you practice patience. Avoid placing a market order at the open because your order might be filled at a very high price compared to if you wait for a pullback. There is also no rule that says you must buy on the first day of trading. Many times you can get a better deal biding your time and buying the newly IPO stock after a couple days, weeks, or months. Snowflake had months of buying opportunities after it’s IPO. Unity and DoorDash both opened high during their IPO’s but then pulled back to present investors with more friendly entry points. I’ll leave you with a couple general tips about buying an IPO stock:
Try not to get caught up in the hype and don’t make impulsive decisions based on FOMO.
Do as much research as you possibly can about the company that you are spending your hard earned cash on. This includes reading the prospectus all the way through to identify the biggest risks to the business.
If it’s a traditional IPO, make sure that the underwriters of the IPO have a good reputation. If its a SPAC or direct listing, take a look at the managements history to see if they can be trusted.
Don’t forget to consider waiting until the employee lock-up period has ended to see the insider opinion of the company. There is no harm in letting the market figure out the true value of the stock before you dive in. Yes you might lose out on some early gains but A good company is still going to be a good company.

There are several exciting IPOs like the Instacart IPO, Impossible Foods IPO, Nextdoor IPO and Discord IPO to keep an eye on!
