For decades, Lagos looked like the obvious place for West Africa’s biggest aviation hub. The geography worked. The demand was there. The market was huge. And yet somehow, the region’s most logical gateway never fully happened.

Now that may be starting to change. Air Peace is expanding, Emirates is leaning in, Nigeria has revived key aviation agreements, and a giant new airport project could finally give Lagos the infrastructure it has always lacked.

So why are so many airlines suddenly paying attention to a city with no true flag carrier and an airport that still struggles to function as a hub? And could Lagos really become Africa’s Dubai?
