How to create Batik crackle effect
Batik is a wax-resist dyeing technique established in many parts of the world such as Indonesia, India, Persia. The wax resists technique works greatest on silk and cotton fiber. Wax is used as a resist to create designs on fabric. Tjanting and tjap are the devices traditionally used for spread over wax onto the textile. Many waxes are toxic, today I use Soy wax which is non-toxic nature makes it the best applicant for a safe working atmosphere.
When it cools down the stiff fabric, the material able to use it for stenciling, stamping, dipped or to fold to achieve the creative surface design.
Soy wax can be removed by ironing
Materials
A. Tjanting, Tjap, or brushes
B. soy wax
C. An electric pot for melting the wax
D. Fabric silk, cotton
F. Acid dye solution or Fibre Reactive Dye solution
G. old newspaper for ironing
In this episode, I use a Batik crackle effect. I paint the whole scarf with a big brush applying the soy wax on both sides. After dry the wax, I crunch the fabric to achieve the crackle effect. When it cools down the stiff fabric, the material able to use it for stenciling, stamping, dipped or to fold to achieve the creative surface design.
