These Fish Have Started Using Divers as Workers #facts #didyouknow #ocean

Parrot fish are doing something so intelligent it almost looks human. When divers collect invasive sea urchins, the fish often surround them and guide them toward areas overloaded with the destructive pests. At first it looks like the fish are simply looking for food — but the truth is far more fascinating.
Parrot fish actually maintain underwater algae gardens, cleaning them daily, removing pests, and aggressively protecting their territory from intruders. The biggest threat to these underwater farms is invasive sea urchins, which destroy vegetation by eating plant roots and scraping entire areas barren with their sharp spikes.
Since parrot fish struggle to break open sea urchins themselves, they appear to cooperate with divers who can remove them more efficiently. While the divers fill their baskets, the fish protect the health of their underwater farms. Some scientists and divers even compare the behavior to a form of “domestication,” where fish actively seek human help to defend their environment.
