After nearly four decades of electrifying college football Saturdays, Lee Corso is retiring from ESPN's College GameDay. Since joining the show in 1987, Corso became a beloved figure known for his charismatic personality, humorous catchphrases like "Not so fast, my friend," and his iconic headgear picks, a tradition he started in 1996. His final appearance will be on August 30, 2025, marking the opening week of the college football season.
Colleagues and fans alike have expressed their admiration for Corso's contributions to the sport. Kirk Herbstreit, who has worked alongside Corso since 1996, paid tribute to his friend following the announcement.
Corso's legacy extends beyond the broadcast booth. Before his television career, he spent 28 years coaching college and professional football, including stints at Louisville, Indiana, and Northern Illinois. He also led the USFL’s Orlando Renegades in 1985. Despite a stroke in 2009 that reduced his travel, Corso remained a fixture on the show, continuing to contribute to its success.

As Corso prepares to sign off, ESPN plans special programming to honor his legacy. His departure marks the end of an era for College GameDay, but his impact on the sport and its fans will be remembered for years to come.
