SONAX Polymer Net Shield - Review & Water Test

This video is a basic overview and water test for Polymer Net Shield made by SONAX. Polymer Net Shield(PNS) is a durable paint sealant in aerosol form. For this specific test, I applied PNS to the left side fender and hood, and I'm comparing the hydrophobic behavior to Sonax Brilliant Shine Detailer(BSD) which is applied to the right side hood and fender.

Very much like BSD, PNS leaves behind a unique texture on the paint that, while smooth, doesn't leave the paint quite as slick as other products. This is a function of the sealant that gives off that incredible hydrophobic behavior, and PNS is at the top of the game with regards to aggressive water beading. You should expect to see up to 6 months of durability out of one application.

The application is not as easy as applying your more typical waxes or sealants. When you spray your foam applicator pad (not included) with a small amount of PNS, you'll notice the pad does not glide smoothly across the paint. It's much more of a grabby feeling. However, a little bit of product does spread a long way. You should still make sure you apply the sealant in smaller sections, as you do not want to have the sealant drying on the paint for too long before you begin to buff it off with a microfiber towel. Once the product has been on the paint for about a minute, you should begin removing it immediately. You'll also notice that it does take a little more effort to to fully remove all traces of the product from the paint.

The product does go on clear, so you can also apply it to the trim without worrying about any discoloration. But you can easily see where you've applied it as you will see a great deal of light distortion before removing it from the paint. Eventually it will buff off clean leaving a very glossy surface and it shines great in the sun.

Polymer Net Shield holds up its water beading very well after the soap test, it almost appears as though the water beading improved after washing and rinsing. This is not a product that is going to easily rinse away after a few washes or rainstorms. One of the properties of PNS that I hear from other reviewers is just how well it does at repelling dirt and grime, keeping your car looking cleaner in between washes.

Brilliant Shine Detailer is the perfect product to help maintain the properties of Polymer Net Shield over the months. If you notice any decrease in the water beading of PNS itself, refresh that water behavior with BSD which utilizes the same type of chemical polymer technology. Although, you might find that it will take months before you see any significant decrease in the hydrophobic behavior that would warrant any need to top PNS.

PNS doesn't appear to have any scent to it. The aerosol bottle holds 210ml (7.1oz), which should give you about 6-7 applications on a mid sized car. You can find Polymer Net Shield on most of the online detailing retail sites in the U.S. listed for $28.

This is a great paint sealant that really delivers on its durability properties. The application process is not easy and you don't get a large amount of product for the price, but it's certainly not something you will have to apply very often. Like with any wax or sealant, you'll get the best results when you've prepped the car by claying and polishing the paint (if necessary) before application.
