ASP President Silvia Fernández de Gurmendi on 17 July: Day of International Criminal Justice

The International Criminal Court is the embodiment of the collective will of the international community to fight against impunity and ensure accountability for the gravest crimes under international law.

On behalf of the 123 (one hundred and twenty-three) States Parties, I take this opportunity to reaffirm that the Assembly continues to provide support to this historic Court, created to bring mankind closer to peace and justice. It is also our resolute decision to safeguard this independent and impartial judicial institution in undertaking its mandate effectively and efficiently within the legal framework of its founding treaty – the Rome Statute.

Today, we celebrate the Day of International Criminal Justice, standing together in our unwavering commitment to uphold and defend the values and principles enshrined in the Rome Statute and preserve the integrity of the Court.
