Japanese Garden Bamboo Forest Walk: A PEACEFUL Start to the Day

Bamboo in the Japanese Garden serves so many purposes, but I like to think of it a horticultural worm hole. In Nashville's Japanese Garden at Cheekwood Botanical Gardens, you step past the wall, through the gate, into the bamboo forest, and you're somehow transported to another time and place. The sameness of the seemingly infinite shoots of bamboo helps you forget how long you've been walking. The serenity of the gently fluttering leaves filters out the external noise, light, and heat. You step out of the forest ready to follow the stone path, ascend the steps to the viewing pavilion, and encounter a work of art like none other.

In this trip through Nashville's Japanese Garden, we'll start with the bamboo forest, take in the morning light from the viewing pavilion, enjoy the soft moss and gentle Japanese maples, pass the fluttering Ginkgo leaves, ascend stone stairs, find a surprise magnolia bloom, and finish our tour looking down over the whole creation.
