Overwhelming Minority

The Bosnian War, largely considered to be an ethnic war, ravaged the area from 1992-1995. This conflict left at least 100,000 people dead and displaced an estimated 2,000,000, citizens. In his book, Overwhelming Minority, Ted Esler recounts his experience as a missionary in post-war Bosnia.
Even though the Protestant church had a presence in the area before the Bosnian War, the three major religions were Islam, Catholicism, and Eastern Orthodoxy. Because these religions each represented a warring faction during the conflict, there were strong ethnic divisions even after the war ended. Working for Pioneers, an organization that largely serves areas unreached with the Gospel, Ted and his family moved to Bosnia where they served in the years following the conflict.
