HELLGATE: The True Story of Bobby Mackey's Music World

On the banks of the Ohio River, in Wilder, Kentucky, there is a honky-tonk bar built over a well that no one will open.

Bobby Mackey opens the doors every Friday night. He has done this for forty years.

In 1896, a woman named Pearl Bryan was found in a nearby field. Headless. Two men were hanged for the murder. The head was never recovered.

In 1978, a bartender named Carl Lawson began to change. A priest was called. An exorcism was performed inside the building. The case went to court — a real Kentucky courtroom — where a judge heard testimony about demonic possession and did not dismiss it.

At the entrance to Bobby Mackey's Music World, there is a sign that reads:

"WARNING: This establishment is purported to be haunted. Management is not responsible for any actions of any spirits, entities, or persons not of this world."

He still opens at nine.

HELLGATE is the true story of one of the most documented paranormal locations in America — told through court records, investigative files, witness testimony, and a 130-year trail of events that no one has ever fully explained.
