There is a wide array of techniques that can change nervous system function. Neuromodulation techniques have alleviated movement disorders, chronic pain, and tinnitus. Some neurophysiology research tools have not yet come into use in humans, but they have allowed researchers to uncover workings of neural circuits. This talk will focus on neurophysiology and how principles translate to neurotechnology.

Sharena Rice is a systems neuroscientist. She earned her bachelor’s in biochemistry and molecular biology from California Lutheran University, then completed a post-baccalaureate and PhD at the University of Michigan Ann Arbor. Sharena’s neuroscience research has spanned from the level of molecules up to the level of awake behaving animals, with the most focus on brain rhythms and neural circuits in navigation.
