EU regionalism - the case of ASEAN and Central America by M. Derous & D. Martens (part 4/6)
This presentation was part of the Centre of EU Studies panel at the 10th Ghent-Africa Platform Symposium, 9th December 2016.
The panel focused on different aspects of 'EU, Africa and Regionalism'. In the past decennia, in parallel to the process of globalization, the world has increasingly witnessed processes of regionalism. Although regional integration is taking place in all parts of the globe, different forms can be distinguished. This panel focuses on the EU, Africa and regionalism and builds on the expertise at both Ghent University and the University of Pretoria. After a general introduction to the research area, the panel will discuss a set of topical questions and case studies. More specifically, by means of lively pecha kucha presentations, attention will be paid to regional integration within Africa, to the EU as a promotor of regionalism in other parts of the world as well as to the differences between European and African integration processes. The presentations will be followed by a debate with the audience and conclude with some areas for future research and collaboration.
