AITA for Saying My Husband is a Good Father?At a family dinner, I casually mentioned that my husband, Mike, was a good father. I thought it was a harmless compliment—he plays with the kids, helps with homework, and is generally hands-on. But apparently, I opened Pandora’s box. My sister-in-law immediately scoffed, saying, “What’s so special about a dad doing the bare minimum?” My mother chimed in, “Back in my day, fathers didn’t need praise for doing their job.” Suddenly, everyone had an opinion. My brother said, “If a mom did those things, no one would call her a ‘good mother.’” I tried to explain that I wasn’t comparing him to anyone or minimizing my role as a mom—I was simply acknowledging that he’s present and caring. But the more I talked, the worse it got. By the end of the meal, I was accused of setting “low standards” and feeding into patriarchal norms. Now I’m questioning if I was wrong to say it at all. AITA for appreciating my husband’s efforts as a dad, or was I really out of line?
