Keep the body slender for realism—Ephoron adults are slim and pale.
For better visibility in low light, consider adding a subtle thread rib of pale cream or silver wire.

Scout in advance; Look for rivers with muddy seams, slow glides, and silty tailouts. This describes exactly the place we first saw these flies here at Squaretail TV. The advice is Arrive early, and stay late; The bugs often start coming off near dusk and go strong until after dark, however we encountered them in blizzard mode at about 3:00 in the afternoon, and fished them the next day only a little later with success. That’s practically the middle of the day so far north that time of year.
Use light tippet for a natural drift; some fish can get picky during heavy hatches. Watch the riseforms; Trout often slash violently at duns, then switch to sipping spinners in a more delicate fashion—adjust your pattern accordingly; nymphs fished with an emerging lift before switching to actively presented, high-floating dries is a frequently successful technique.
