Adding New Bantam Chickens to an Existing Flock | Integrating New Chickens
Join me, The President of Chickenlandia, as I integrate some tiny rescue chickens into my mixed flock of standards and bantams! Watch as I show you in easy to follow steps exactly how to deal with the pecking order and gently help everyone to get along. There's even another rescue chicken that joins us toward the end! #chickenlandia #welcometochickenlandia #integratingchickens
*Dealing with the Pecking Order*: It's so hard to watch chickens work out the pecking order, but it's a necessary part of the nature of the flock. During integration, I recommend checking on your new birds several times during the day to make sure they aren't getting pecked to the point of drawing blood. If bleeding occurs, you need to immediately separate the new bird, care for their wounds, and start the integration process over. Every flock is different but in most cases, everyone will eventually get along.
*QUARANTINING NEW BIRDS*: Every flock carries different pathogens and sometimes new birds can make existing flocks sick. To properly integrate new birds into your flock, it's best to keep them in a completely separate area with no chance of cross-contamination for two to four weeks. Clean shoes with a diluted bleach spray or cover them with disposable plastic bags when moving between your existing flock and the quarantined area. Treat new birds for external and internal parasites as a precaution. If you have addition questions, feel free to contact me through the following links:
