Beartown Rocks - Exploring Clear Creek State Forest | Pennsylvania

Located in northern Jefferson County’s - Clear Creek State Forest, Beartown Rocks is one of the largest rock outcroppings in Pennsylvania featuring panoramic views of the Clarion River Valley. Beartown Rock Overlook is a unique “rock city” containing towering sandstone formations as wide as a city block. These fascinating geological specimens have attracted tourists for well over a century. The massive, erosion-resistant boulders are from the Pennsylvanian-age Pottsville Formation approximately 320 million years ago. There is a wooden observation deck not far from the parking lot perched upon one of these towering monoliths. A scenic trail stems from the parking lot with views of endless fern-laced forests. I could easily spend hours exploring each formation within this park. Just below the observation deck you will find one of Pennsylvania’s natural arches (which is the perfect photo opportunity).
